This year at County Antrim Indoor Bowling Club we have decided to introduce something new and exciting for members, the '2-4-2' Australian Rules Pairs.

The most notable characteristic of the '2-4-2' Australian Pairs is that it allows both people on a team to play lead & skip in the same game. As some of you may be unfamiliar with the format or may never have even heard this variation of the pairs format of the game, here's a quick rundown of the rules:

  • First end of game the leads start off with 2 Bowls each.
  • The skips then plays their 4 bowls.
  • The leads complete the end with their final 2 bowls.
  • Thus, the leads acts as lead and skip in the same end.
  • In the next end the roles are reversed.
  • The skips playing first with their 2 bowls.
  • Then the leads play their 4 bowls.
  • Then the skips complete the end with their final 2 bowls.
  • The alternating pattern continues throughout the game.

The '2-4-2' Australian Rules Pairs will be run on Friday nights commencing from Friday 16th September 2011, and we hope to see you getting to grips with our all new format out on the green on then.
